Aleema Khan says punishing Nawaz Sharif on Iqama was a 'mistake'

Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, expressed her views on the judicial proceedings surrounding her brother's rival, Nawaz Sharif, particularly focusing on the Panama case and the controversy surrounding the use of an Iqama.

Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Aleema Khan criticized the judges' decision to penalize Nawaz Sharif, suggesting it was an error on their part. She highlighted the recent letter from six IHC judges, suggesting it has brought to light various issues within the judicial system. Aleema emphasized the importance of judges upholding justice and urged lawyers who previously supported Justice retired Iftikhar Chaudhry to now rally behind the IHC judges.

Furthermore, Aleema Khan questioned the judgment in the Panama case, asserting that Nawaz Sharif's conviction was based on the use of an Iqama rather than the original charges. She implied that Sharif's freedom indicated a flaw in the judicial process.

Aleema Khan cited Asad Majeed's statement and the sentences in the cipher and treason cases as evidence that the current legal proceedings were aimed at protecting certain interests, suggesting a conspiracy to safeguard individuals like Donald Lu.

In her statement, Aleema Khan raised concerns about the handling of the cipher case, questioning the whereabouts of the remaining copies and implying that there may be ulterior motives behind its investigation. She called for transparency and accountability in the legal process, urging for a thorough examination of the case to ensure justice is served.
