Assistant Commissioner Ehsan ul Haq in Skardu has come under public criticism after sharing a video showing him administering polio drops to a man who had earlier refused to vaccinate his child. He claimed that the child’s thumb had been illegally marked as vaccinated despite not receiving the drops.
In the video, Ehsan ul Haq was seen giving the polio vaccine to the man in the presence of his child, an act that sparked backlash from human rights organisations and social media users who accused him of humiliating the father publicly.
According to reports, the man had initially refused the vaccine for his child, after which he was summoned to the Assistant Commissioner’s office and persuaded to proceed with the vaccination.
Amid mounting criticism, the Assistant Commissioner issued a clarification, stating that he had received authorisation from the District Health Officer (DHO) Skardu and did not intend to disrespect the father.
“During the polio campaign, the DHO Skardu filed a complaint with my office regarding a Health Department employee who failed to administer the vaccine to a child but illegally marked the child’s thumb. Acting on the complaint, both parties were summoned to the office,” he explained in a Facebook post.
He further apologised, saying he was sorry if his actions hurt anyone’s sentiments.
