GUJARAT: An Indian court in the state of Gujarat has sentenced three Muslim men to life imprisonment in a case involving the alleged slaughter of a cow.

According to reports, 277 kilograms of beef were recovered from three men identified as Wasim Qureshi, Mohammad Rafiq Qureshi and Ashfaq.

They were subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment and fined 300,000 Indian rupees.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi welcomed the court's decision, saying it sent a clear message that the law would not spare those involved in cow slaughter.

In a separate incident, a group of members of Hindutva outfits assaulted two Muslim men and a van driver transporting buffaloes in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district.

The group stopped the traders and accused them of stealing the buffaloes. Videos of the incident show members of the mob tying up the two traders, dragging them through a field and beating them with sticks.
