Mai Subhai’s ‘killing’ in Dera Bugti turns Out to be false; Baloch folk singer died decades ago

Reports claiming that well-known Balochi folk singer Mai Subhai was gunned down in Dera Bugti on Wednesday have turned out to be false, with authorities clarifying that she had actually died decades ago.

The reports, which first circulated on social media, were later picked up by several television channels and mainstream news organisations.

However, it subsequently emerged that Mai Subhai had died decades ago and was not killed in any incident in Dera Bugti.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner of South Dera Bugti said reports about the singer’s killing in the district were “incorrect and misleading”.

The clarification came after the unverified claim gained widespread circulation on social media and was reported by mainstream media outlets.
