Azaan Sami clarifies viral statement about not sharing wife's pictures online

Singer and actor Adnan Sami’s recent comments about not sharing his wife’s picture online went viral on social media. However, Sami has clarified that his remarks were taken out of context and misconstrued.

An old interview of the actor resurfaced online, but he did not explicitly talk about withholding his wife’s pictures. Instead, he was responding to a question about why he stays away from publicizing his personal life or being “shipped” with anyone on social media.

The host had asked Adnan why he avoids the spotlight on social media, where fans often pair celebrities with their favorite stars. Sami explained that he does not seek such fame and believes it is disrespectful to involve a girl in public attention merely for popularity.

“I think I have certain religious beliefs that some relationships are very pure and should be revealed only when they reach a sacred union. Nikah is a very private matter that protects the dignity of both a girl and a boy. We cannot suddenly adopt Western practices one day and then go back to our values the next. I am not saying I haven’t made mistakes in life, but every human has the right to improve themselves,” Sami said.

He added, “When something in the realm of the sanctity, it should be treated with care. Otherwise, why would I bring disrespect to anyone just to gain fame for a few days? I want to be with someone who shares the same values, and I would like to be known for my work. Ownership of a relationship is meaningful only when it is treated with sanctity.”

Earlier, a statement attributed to him, saying he would not share his wife’s picture on social media due to his religious beliefs, was widely circulated online.
