The government on Wednesday increased prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs6.88 and Rs5.62 per litre, respectively, amid rising crude oil and petroleum product prices in the international market.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) calculated the new ex-depot prices for September 17, according to which the price of petrol has been increased by Rs6.88 to Rs391.22 per litre.

The price of high-speed diesel has gone up by Rs5.62 per litre, with the new price set at Rs421.45 per litre.

According to OGRA, the revised prices were determined on the basis of international oil prices, along with Platts rates, premiums and other relevant factors.

The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has fallen significantly from its peak of Rs520.35 per litre, recorded on April 3. It had risen from Rs281 per litre after the US-Iran war began on February 28.

Petrol prices followed a similar trend, reaching a peak of Rs458.41 per litre on April 3. The price had started climbing from Rs266 per litre in the first week of March.
