Fuel subsidy valid only for registered vehicles, petrol pump owners clarify

ISLAMABAD: The Petrol Pump Owners Association has urged citizens to cooperate with petrol stations in implementing the Prime Minister’s fuel subsidy scheme and follow the prescribed token-based procedure.

Association representative Noman Ali Butt said petrol stations are required to provide subsidised fuel only to vehicles for which a valid subsidy token has been generated under the scheme.

He clarified that the subsidy would be applicable only to the registered vehicle against which the token was issued.

Butt urged consumers not to insist on receiving subsidised petrol for a vehicle other than the one registered under the scheme.

He advised beneficiaries to visit petrol stations with the registered vehicle and claim the subsidy against its designated token.

How to register?

Applicants will need a valid CNIC, a SIM registered in their name and vehicle registration details verified through the relevant provincial Excise Department records.

The registration process is based on SMS:

Step 1 — Registration:

Send the following format to 9771:

REG CNIC Plate No Province Code Registration Date

The vehicle registration date must be entered in DDMMYYYY format.

Province codes are:

I — Islamabad

A — Azad Jammu and Kashmir

G — Gilgit-Baltistan

S — Sindh

P — Punjab

K — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

B — Balochistan

Applicants will receive a confirmation message after successful registration.

Step 2 — Get a token:

Before visiting a petrol station, send TOK to 9771 to receive a fuel-relief token. Motorcycle and rickshaw users will get relief on five liters at a time and car users will get relief on 10 liters petrol using one token, Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima said addressing a press conference on Monday.

Step 3 — Buy subsidised petrol:

Show the SMS token at the petrol station to receive petrol at the subsidised price, with the Rs100-per-litre relief applied to the eligible monthly quota.
