KARACHI: A court has sentenced a police officer to death in a case involving the killing of a young man in an alleged fake police encounter.
The Model Criminal Court East in Karachi handed down the death sentence to police officer Shehryar after finding him guilty of killing a young man in a staged police encounter in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
The court also sentenced two co-accused police officers, Nasir and Faisal, to life imprisonment. All three convicts were ordered to pay Rs500,000 each in compensation to the victim's family.
According to the prosecution, Shahin Force personnel signalled Aamir to stop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. When he failed to stop, the police officers chased him, entered a residential apartment and opened fire on him.
The officers initially portrayed the incident as an armed encounter. However, a case was subsequently registered against the accused at Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station in 2022.
