Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has strongly criticised US sanctions against his country, describing them as “economic terrorism” and warning that military tensions in the Persian Gulf could threaten global energy supplies.

Speaking at the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow, Pezeshkian said military attacks against Iran had damaged energy facilities and disrupted supply systems. He warned that the consequences could extend beyond the region and affect the global economy.

According to Iranian broadcaster Press TV, Pezeshkian accused the United States and Israel of launching military attacks against Iran twice while political negotiations were underway.

He said such actions had heightened regional tensions and raised concerns about the security of energy infrastructure.

Pezeshkian also warned that escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt oil and gas shipments, affect international trade and push energy prices higher.

He stressed that disruptions in the strategically important waterway could have consequences for energy markets worldwide.

The Iranian president further criticised US economic sanctions, naval and air blockades, and pressure on other countries to comply with the restrictions. Calling these measures “economic terrorism”, he said they had undermined the stability of global energy markets.

He urged major energy-producing countries to speak out against such measures and cooperate to safeguard energy supplies.

Pezeshkian said no country could ignore a crisis in such an important energy region, warning that disruptions to oil and gas supplies could affect businesses, consumers and economies around the world.
