At least one person was killed and six others injured after the roof of an under-construction commercial plaza gave way near Multan’s Northern Bypass on Tuesday.
Nishtar Hospital received the six injured people, three of whom had sustained head injuries, according to a hospital spokesperson. The remaining three suffered minor injuries. The severity of the head injuries was not immediately clear.
The collapse occurred near the National College of Business Administration and Economics, where between 10 and 15 labourers were reportedly working at the time.
Rescue 1122 said its teams reached the site within three minutes of being alerted and began searching the debris for people who might still be trapped.
Ten emergency vehicles were deployed, including five ambulances, three rescue motorbikes, one rescue vehicle and a fire vehicle.
The hospital spokesperson said medical staff had been placed on high alert in the emergency department to treat those brought in after the incident.
Roof collapses have repeatedly caused deaths and injuries in Pakistan, raising concerns about building safety and construction standards.
Earlier this month, a school roof collapse in Peshawar killed a teacher and 30 students. In September, two men died in Pakpattan when the roof of their house fell during heavy rain and a windstorm.
