Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces an uncertain political future after his right-wing alliance failed to secure the 61 seats required for a parliamentary majority in the 120-member Knesset.

According to the reported seat distribution, Netanyahu's bloc secured 53 seats, while the opposition bloc won 48. Arab-led parties hold the remaining 19 seats, potentially giving them a significant role in determining the country's next government.

With no political bloc securing an outright majority, attention has turned to President Isaac Herzog, who is expected to consult political parties before assigning a lawmaker the responsibility of forming a government.

The designated candidate will generally have 28 days to assemble a governing coalition, with the possibility of a 14-day extension.

Several political scenarios could now unfold. Netanyahu may attempt to secure support from lawmakers outside his existing alliance, while opposition parties could explore forming a broader unity government. If neither side succeeds in securing sufficient parliamentary support, Israel could face another election.

The 19 seats held by Arab-led parties could also become significant during coalition negotiations. Their support or abstention could potentially facilitate an opposition-led minority government, although political disagreements and resistance to cooperation remain major obstacles.

Falling short of a parliamentary majority does not automatically remove Netanyahu from office. He remains prime minister while efforts to form a new government continue.

The coming weeks are expected to be crucial in determining whether Netanyahu can retain power through a new coalition, whether opposition parties can form an alternative government, or whether Israel will return to the polls.
