Iranian state television has aired emergency instructions advising citizens on how to protect themselves in case of a nuclear strike, including measures to limit exposure to the blast, radiation and radioactive fallout.
The guidance tells people not to look directly at the flash and to take cover behind a barrier. They are advised to lie flat on the ground and shield their heads and faces.
After the blast wave has passed, people should enter the nearest building without stopping to watch or photograph the incident. The instructions warn against taking shelter in vehicles and advise people to stay away from windows and exterior walls.
The broadcast also outlines decontamination measures. People should wash exposed skin with lukewarm water and soap, using ordinary shampoo without conditioner. If a shower is unavailable, they should clean their faces, hands and other exposed areas with water or wet wipes.
Citizens are advised to consume bottled water and packaged food and remain inside a shelter for at least 24 hours. However, if the building catches fire or is at risk of collapse, they should move to a safer location.
