Sri Lanka secured a place in the final of the tri-nation ODI series after defeating previously unbeaten Pakistan by eight wickets in the fifth match of the tournament. The result also eliminated England from contention for a place in the final.

At Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday, Pakistan were bowled out for just 110 in 25.3 overs after Sri Lanka asked to bat first. In reply, Sri Lanka comfortably chased down the target of 111, reaching 111-2 in 19 overs.

Pakistan openers Fakhar Zaman and Maaz Sadaqat began the innings, but the team’s top order once again failed to deliver, leaving the batters under pressure from the outset.

Fakhar Zaman was caught after edging the ball, departing for five. Maaz Sadaqat followed soon after, scoring eight before being trapped leg-before-wicket by Fernando.

Pakistan suffered their third setback at 46 when wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig was dismissed for five. Salman Ali Agha then departed for nine, while Babar Azam offered some resistance with 29 off 33 balls. However, his dismissal left Pakistan reeling at 61-5.

Shadab Khan, who had produced an impressive batting performance against England, failed to make an impact this time, scoring just two runs. Pakistan subsequently slumped to 64-6.

Arafat Minhas was dismissed for 10 at the team total of 91, while Hasan Nawaz scored 17 off 31 balls but could not help Pakistan build a competitive total. Haris Rauf added one run, while captain Shaheen Shah Afridi scored 15 off 13 deliveries. Naseem Shah remained unbeaten on two.

Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 110 in just 25.3 overs, setting Sri Lanka a modest target of 111 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets for 34 runs. Sahan Arachchige took two wickets, while Asitha Fernando, Eshan Malinga and Dunith Wellalage picked up one wicket each.

The victory secured Sri Lanka’s place in the final, while England’s hopes of reaching the title clash came to an end.
