Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have agreed to continue dialogue on regional peace and security, with Tehran calling for a regional framework free from external interference.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said that security in West Asia should be shaped by regional countries themselves.
He made the remarks after four-nation talks in Tehran involving senior officials from the participating countries.
The discussions focused on regional security, Israeli activities and developments in Palestine and Lebanon. Rezaei said cooperation among the four countries could help address the crises facing the region and described the talks as creating a positive atmosphere for further engagement.
He also called for an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, southern Syria, Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the meeting could mark an important step towards establishing a regional security framework based on shared interests and cooperation.
According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, the four countries agreed to continue consultations to strengthen cooperation on regional issues, including peace and security.
