The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Sialkot Stallionz has officially been renamed Multan Sultans, PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer announced on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, Naseer confirmed that the request for a name change was submitted by the franchise’s new CEO, Gohar Shah, and had been approved by the league management.

According to Naseer, the option to request a change of name was included in the franchise auction framework, allowing owners to apply for a name that may not have been available at the time of bidding.

He explained that the name “Multan Sultans” was not available during the auction process, prompting the franchise to initially adopt the name Sialkot Stallionz.

Naseer added that after assuming his role as CEO, Gohar Shah formally applied for the name change and fulfilled the necessary terms and conditions, including payment of a one-time licence fee.

The PSL CEO also announced that the franchise’s annual fee had been revised from Rs1.85 billion to Rs2 billion.

Speaking at the event, Gohar Shah welcomed the restoration of Multan’s identity in the league, stating that the move would strengthen representation from south Punjab.

Earlier this year, OZ Developers secured ownership of the franchise with a Rs1.85 billion bid during the PSL auction, which was described as the highest bid in the league’s history.
