Pakistan secured its first medal of the Commonwealth Games after boxer Fatima Zahra advanced to the women's 60kg semifinals with a convincing victory in the quarterfinals.
Competing at SEC Hall 5 in Glasgow, Fatima defeated New Zealand's Jordan Wilson by a unanimous 5-0 decision to book her place in the last four and guarantee at least a bronze medal.
The Pakistani boxer dominated the three-round contest, with the judges scoring the bout 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 in her favour.
By reaching the semifinals, Fatima has assured Pakistan of its first podium finish at the Games, as losing semifinalists in Commonwealth Games boxing receive bronze medals.
She will now compete in the semifinals, aiming to extend her winning run and secure a place in the final, where she will have the opportunity to fight for gold.
