The written verdict in the Toshakhana-II case against former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi has been released. The judge, Arjumand Shah, sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, each, 17 years of imprisonment and were fined Rs16.4 million. The court ruled that both accused, Imran khan and Bushra Bibi, were guilty of criminal breach of trust.

The court also stated that minimum possible sentence has been given under the law keeping, Imran Khan’s advanced age and Bushra Bibi’s status as a woman, in consideration. The period already spent in custody, has been ordered to be counted towards the completion of their sentences.

The written decision states that Imran Khan has been given 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code, while an additional seven years’ imprisonment has been imposed under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bushra Bibi was also handed a total of 17-year prison time on similar charges.

The court also warned that failure to pay the fined amount would result in an additional six months’ imprisonment for each of them.
