A 20-year-old girl, said to be student of the International Islamic University Islamabad, was found dead on a green belt in the capital, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and an alleged visa fraud.

The police identified the student as Laiba, a resident of G-10 Markaz. According to reports, she had reportedly paid Rs5 million to an agent to facilitate her travel to the United States.

Laiba was under severe mental stress after discovering that the documents provided to her were fake.

She reportedly left home without informing her family at around 2pm on Sunday. Her family traced her mobile phone’s location to the green belt, where her body was found, police said.

Police officials said that the incident appeared to be a suspected suicide, but an investigation has been launched. They were also examining the agent’s alleged role in the fraud.

The cause and circumstances of her death will become clear after the post-mortem report, the officials added.
