K-Electric said on Friday that Karachi residents could face power cuts during evening and night hours as a shortage of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) puts pressure on electricity generation.
The utility said that the situation was linked to delays in gas shipments and disruptions in international supplies. It may resort to load management during peak hours if the fuel shortage continues.
K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana said the company was working with Pakistan LNG Limited and other authorities to restore normal supplies. He added that electricity supply was expected to remain largely stable during the daytime.
Rana described load management as an “extreme, last-resort measure” and apologised to consumers for any inconvenience.
The shortage is not the first challenge for Pakistan's power sector this year. In August, consumers faced electricity cuts linked to limited RLNG supplies. The government apologised at the time and said the situation would improve after delayed gas cargoes arrived.
