SIU officers suspended in Karachi over alleged sale of confiscated drugs

The Special Investigation Unit of Karachi police in December suspended officers involved in the sale of narcotics, valued at 280 million.
The seized consignment comprised 468 kilograms of hashish and 40 kilograms of crystal meth. Officials said the drugs were confiscated during an earlier operation, described as the largest of its kind to date, which resulted in 14 arrests.
Among those detained was Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer Javed Rasheed, from whose residence 50 kilograms of hashish and 10 kilograms of crystal meth were recovered. Following the operation, the SIU initiated an inquiry headed by West Zone DIG Irfan Ali Baloch, and the findings were made public on Thursday.
The inquiry was led by West DIG Irfan Ali Baloch, it was found out that Sub-Inspector Aijaz Butt and Police Officer Rehmat had accepted bribes from a convicted drug dealer and excise officer.
DIG Baloch compiled the report and submitted it to AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, who will oversee the case.
