Police register kidnapping case after six-year-old disappears in Rawalpindi

A case of kidnapping was registered by the police on Thursday following an unsuccessful day-long search for a six-year-old missing near Committee Chowk in Rawalpindi.

Earlier in the day, a massive search operation had been launched by Rescue 1122 on reports received from the father of the child about her missing near Landa Bazaar.

The operation had been carried out in an area of over four kilometres of Nullah Leh on apprehensions that the child had been washed away with rainwater following heavy rains in the night.

According to official sources, Umair Ahmed, resident of Lahore, had come to Rawalpindi along with his family to meet his in-laws. While he was getting ready with his children for their return to Lahore on Thursday morning, he discovered that his daughter Hareem Umair was missing.

The Rescue 1122 and police had been informed immediately, and subsequently the search operation had been initiated by the rescue teams in the area where the child was presumed to fall.

Two water rescue teams consisting of 12 rescuers and five vehicles participated in the search operation.

The District Emergency Officer Engineer Sibghatullah said that the search operation had been segregated into four sectors from the spot of the incident via Bohar Bazaar Chowk, Colonel Maqbool Chowk, Liaquat Road and Gawalmandi.

Subsequently the search operation had been extended from the entrance of the drainage channel in Nullah Leh till Moti Mahal Bridge.
