KARACHI: Pirabad police on Saturday arrested three suspected robbers, including the leader of a dacoit gang, in an alleged encounter in the Qasba Colony area of Karachi.
According to police, the suspected robbers were arrested in an injured condition near Ali Ground in Qasba Colony, after an exchange of fire. The injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital via a Chhipa ambulance.
A spokesperson for the district SSP said that the arrested suspected robbers were 32-year-old Amir Bakhsh alias Badshah, son of Manzoor, 27-year-old Najeebullah, son of Qalandar, and 40-year-old Farooq, son of Abbas.
Police said that a mini rifle, two pistols with bullets, narcotics like ice and hashish worth millions of rupees, mobile phones, and money were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspected robbers.
The Sindh government had earlier announced a reward of Rs1 million for the arrest of Badshah, who was said to be the leader of a narcotics gang and wanted in more than 11 serious cases.
Police said that the suspected robbers opened fire in a bid to escape, and in retaliation, the police also opened fire. In the exchange of fire, three bullets hit a police mobile. Four other armed accomplices escaped with gunfire.
Authorities said a search operation was being launched in the area to arrest the fleeing suspects. After medical treatment, the arrested men will be interrogated about their alleged involvement in robberies and killings across Karachi.
