Police arrest two men for rape, murder of minor boy in Karachi's Landhi area

Police have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the sexual assault and murder of a seven-year-old boy in Karachi’s Landhi area. The child’s body was recovered from a garbage dump a few days after he went missing.

According to police, the victim, Saad Ali, disappeared on September 18 after leaving home with Rs 20 to buy snacks. His family filed a missing person’s complaint, following which police launched a search operation. Days later, his body was discovered in a garbage dump near his residence in Lal Mazar.

A press release shared on X by Karachi police confirmed the arrests, stating that SDPO and SHO Landhi ordered immediate action against those involved.

The suspects, identified as Sohail Qureshi and Muhammad Hassan, both residents of the same area and known to the victim, were taken into custody from Landhi 4/B.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Tariq confirmed that the post-mortem revealed signs of sexual assault. The cause of death was a severe head injury inflicted with a heavy object. Samples from the child’s organs were sent for chemical analysis.

Saad was the only child of his parents, leaving the family devastated. His father said he had recently enrolled his son in school and dropped him at tuition on the day he went missing.

Relatives, however, criticised the police for negligence, alleging that they did not check CCTV cameras promptly despite repeated requests. The child’s body was eventually found just two streets away from his home.

This tragic case follows the recent arrest of a vendor in Qayyumabad, who confessed in court to raping more than 100 children.
