Karachi: The traffic police have introduced new guidelines regarding e-challans for traffic violations.
According to the police, citizens who receive their first e-challan and submit an apology will not be required to pay the fine.
For the second e-challan, motorists will receive a 50% discount if the fine is paid within 14 days.
If the e-challan is not paid within 21 days, the full amount will be charged, police officials said.
Traffic police further stated that the fine for running a red signal on a motorcycle is Rs. 5,000, but if paid within 14 days, the motorist will need to pay only Rs. 2,500.
Authorities added that all e-challans paid within 14 days will receive a discount.
The Karachi Traffic Police have also set new speed limits for all major roads in the city, as part of efforts to improve road safety and regulate traffic flow, according to Traffic Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Pir Muhammad Shah.
The speed limit for motorcycles and light transport vehicles (LTVs) has been capped at 60 kilometres per hour, while heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) will be restricted to a maximum of 30 kilometres per hour.
Shah said that speed-monitoring systems equipped with cameras are being installed throughout the city to detect violations. In addition, tracking devices are being fitted in 10,000 heavy vehicles, which will be connected to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) for real-time monitoring.
