ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday dismissed the petitions filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi praying for suspension of their convictions in the £190 million corruption case, pointing out that their main appeals in respect of the convictions had been fixed for hearing.
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar would hear the appeals on May 7. Consequently, the court deemed their petitions to be infructuous.
In its hearing on April 30, Justice Dogar had stated that the best way forward was to decide upon the main appeal promptly.
Imran, who has been in custody since Aug 5, 2023, after being convicted for withholding information regarding the gifts received at Toshakhana, is undergoing a sentence of 14 years in the £190m case, which is also called the Al-Qadir Trust case.
Accountability Court Islamabad had awarded a 14-year jail term to Imran and seven years to Bushra in the case on Jan 17, 2025. Both have contested their convictions before the IHC.
According to the case, the couple had received billions of rupees and hundreds of kanals of land from Bahria Town Ltd to legalize Rs50 billion recovered from the United Kingdom during the PTI government.
