IHC bans ‘Christians only’ requirement in sweeper job ads

The Islamabad High Court has prohibited the practice of posting sweeper jobs with the requirement of ‘Christians only’, calling it a discriminatory practice.

IHC has imposed a strict ban on the use of phrase ‘Christians only’ in advertisements for garbage collector and sweeper vacancies. Following this ban, the reason behind was to end this discrimination.

However, the court ruled that this phrase should be replaced with ‘civilians’ instead. 

Justice Inam Amin Minhas issued the directive while addressing wider concerns about the treatment, working conditions, and overall safety of sanitation and sewage workers nationwide.

He also stressed concern over the rising number of deaths due to hazardous conditions due to exposure of toxic gas.

This landmark ruling not only ensures equal employment opportunities but also aims to improve the safety and dignity of sewage workers nationwide.
