The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a woman in Rawalpindi for allegedly defrauding an individual of Rs5.2 million by promising to arrange a United Kingdom work visa.
According to the FIA, the suspect allegedly collected Rs5.2 million from the victim and provided a fake IELTS certificate in exchange for Rs1 million.
The agency said the woman had also promised to secure a UK visa through marriage and provided a fraudulent marriage registration certificate to support her claims.
The FIA further stated that Rs2 million had been recovered from the suspect, while investigations were underway to recover the remaining amount and determine the possible involvement of other individuals in the case.
Earlier, Laiba Ijaz, a student at International Islamic University, was defrauded of Rs5 million, which she had paid to move to the United States for further studies. An agent was accused of handing her fake travel documents.
The case drew the government’s attention, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directing the police to arrest the suspect. Subsequently, he and two of his female accomplices were picked up during separate raids in the federal capital
