PM Shehbaz has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive roadmap with clear timelines and targets for establishing a fully digital payment system across Pakistan.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the prime minister stressed that promoting a cashless economy was among the government’s top priorities.

He directed officials to immediately address consumer complaints related to digital payment services and ensure nationwide internet connectivity and easier access to technology.

According to PMO, Shehbaz called for continued promotion of digital transactions between consumers and merchants through the Raast QR Code system.

Furthermore, he ordered a media campaign encouraging electricity and gas consumers to pay bills using QR codes printed on their bills.

Officials informed the meeting that payments in most federal and provincial government institutions were expected to be fully digitized by December 2026, while all Benazir Income Support Program payments were being made through digital wallets.
