The fire that broke out in a residential building near Baloch Colony Bridge in Karachi has been brought under control.

According to rescue officials, the fire erupted in the basement of the 8-storey building. The Chief Fire Officer said that four fire tenders and two snorkels were used to extinguish the blaze.

He added that although the fire was confined to the basement, smoke spread throughout the entire building. People were evacuated from the building with the help of snorkel cranes.

Rescue authorities stated that the 8-storey building has four apartments on each floor. The basement contained a parking area and generators; however, the initial cause of the fire could not be determined.

Meanwhile, a female resident of the affected building told the media that the fire brigade vehicles did not even have petrol upon arrival, and residents had to purchase 30 liters of petrol from their own money.

She also praised ASI Arsalan, the police officer present at the scene, calling him the real hero for helping evacuate residents from their homes.
