A 6-year-old child was reportedly subjected to physical torture at a government school for special education in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Johar area, it emerged on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the Government Special Education and Rehabilitation Complex, where a father arrived to pick up his child, only to discover visible torture marks on the boy's hands and other parts of his body.

According to the police, the victim's father filed a complaint at the Gulistan-e-Johar police station.

He informed the authorities that his son, who has a speaking disability, was unable to explain what had happened.

When the father confronted the school staff about the injuries, he was met with vague and unsatisfactory responses.

The complainant further alleged that the school administration threatened him for questioning the torture.

Human rights organisations have expressed deep concern over the alarming prevalence of child abuse in Pakistan. Many have called for stricter measures to prevent both physical and mental abuse of minors, especially in educational institutions meant to provide care and rehabilitation.
