22 villages in Punjab's Multan district partially submerged under floodwaters

LAHORE: As many as 22 villages in Multan District have been submerged under 3 to 4 feet of floodwater due to River Chenab, resulting in the displacement of thousands of people along with their livestock in addition to damage to the standing crops of extensive land area, as per the latest flood situation report released by the district administration.

According to the report compiled by the assistant commissioners, the total number of mouzas in Multan is 545 out of which 138 are vulnerable to floods.

According to the report, the number of partially inundated mouzas with the depth of up to 3-4 feet of water include four in Multan Saddar, seven in Shujaabad and 11 in Jalalpur Pirwala tehsils.

According to residents, the rising water level of floodwaters has displaced thousands of people along with their livestock, while the crops of cotton, fodder etc., have been inundated.

District administration has reported that no mouza has been categorized as severely affected and no evacuation order has been issued as yet. The water level has been observed as receding and the situation is being closely watched in all four tehsils.

In Multan Saddar, the affected mouzas are Abu Hatta, Vellan, Dhello and Zaman Pur. While in Shujaabad, floodwaters have affected Soman, Pounta, Tahir Pur, Marha, Agar Khawani, Dhundoon and Wanis.
