How to register for petrol subsidy scheme announced by PM Sharif?

The federal government has launched a state-of-the-art digital system to implement a special petrol relief scheme.

Under the scheme, the govt is offering a subsidy of Rs100 per litre to eligible owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Chingchis and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.

The system has been developed by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication in collaboration with provincial departments, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and telecom operators.

How to register?

Citizens seeking to benefit from the scheme must register through an SMS sent from a mobile SIM registered in their own name.

Applicants are required to send the following format:

REG CNIC Vehicle Number Province Code Vehicle Registration Date

The CNIC should be entered without dashes, while the vehicle registration number should be entered without spaces or dashes. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation message after their registration is processed.

How to get subsidised petrol?

After completing registration, eligible applicants must obtain a fuel token before visiting a participating petrol station.

To request the token, applicants should send “TOK” to 9771 from their registered mobile number. Once the token is received, they can visit a participating petrol pump and present it for verification to purchase petrol at the subsidised rate.

According to the government, the subsidised fuel supply will begin in Islamabad on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

The facility will subsequently be made available at petrol pumps across the rest of the country on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated his commitment to utilising available resources to provide relief to the public, particularly the working class facing mounting living expenses.
