PTI resubmits contempt plea over ' violation' of SC order on Imran’s hospital transfer

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday resubmitted a contempt petition to the Supreme Court after the court’s registrar returned an earlier plea filed by Imran Khan’s sister over the alleged non-compliance with an order directing the former premier’s transfer to a private hospital.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the registrar had raised several objections to the petition, including that the list of charges against the respondents had not been sent along with the plea. He said the party had removed the objections and resubmitted the petition.

Imran’s sister, Uzma Khan, had approached the Supreme Court last week, accusing government and prison officials of deliberately disregarding the court’s August 18 directive.

The apex court had ordered authorities to move Imran to Shifa International Hospital within two days for examination and treatment by a multidisciplinary medical board.

Instead, authorities took the PTI founder to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for a medical check-up before returning him to prison. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar attributed the change in plan to security concerns arising from the presence of PTI workers outside and along the route to the hospital.

Uzma, who was present during the medical examination, had named several government and prison officials as respondents in her contempt petition.
