Private schools in Sindh exempted from six-day school week

The Sindh government has clarified that private schools across the province are free to decide their own weekly teaching and working days, despite an earlier notification introducing a six-day school week.

According to a circular issued on Friday by the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions, privately managed schools can continue to set their weekly schedules based on their operational needs.

The clarification followed a notification issued by the Sindh Education and Literacy Department on July 29, which stated that all schools and colleges in the province would observe a six-day working week from August 1 until further orders.

The latest circular, signed by Additional Director (Registration) Rafia Javed, said the earlier directive does not apply to private schools.

“It is hereby clarified for all privately managed schools across the province of Sindh that they may manage their weekly working days according to their own schedules and operative convenience,” the circular stated.

The July 29 notification had said that all public and private educational institutions working under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department would follow a six-day working week from Monday to Saturday with effect from August 1, 2026.

A day later, the Sindh College Education Department also issued a similar notification, directing all public and private colleges under its administrative control to observe a six-day working week until further orders.
