The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh have condemned the brutal killing of Dr Sarang Memon, who was shot dead in a targeted attack near Mehran Hotel late on Monday night.
In a statement, PMA Secretary General Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Shoro said, "this heinous act of target killing is not merely a localized crime; it is a staggering blow to the entire medical fraternity and a chilling reminder of the state’s failure to protect those who dedicate their lives to saving others."
He said that it was profoundly unfortunate and alarming that this incident occurred within the Karachi's Red Zone. "The fact that such a brazen assassination can take place in a supposedly high-security area raises a grave question mark over the security of citizens in this mega-city," he added.
"If the state cannot protect lives in its most guarded corridors, no citizen is safe."
The PMA urged the Sindh government and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible. It aded that the perpetrators must face exemplary punishment that serves as a permanent deterrent against future violence toward the medical community.
Separately, YDA Sindh in a statement said that this "tragic incident has created serious concern and insecurity among the medical community."
"Unfortunately, similar cases in the past, including the murder of Dr Beerbal, Senior Director KMC, and Dr Shamboo Lal of Lyari, remain unresolved, which has further increased anxiety among doctors," it added.
The YDA demanded that the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice without delay.
