Pakistan working to revive US-Iran Islamabad MoU, says Foreign Office

Pakistan is continuing diplomatic efforts to bring the United States and Iran back to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) framework as part of initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Thursday.

Speaking at the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan was working to facilitate the implementation of the Islamabad MoU and the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Statement to help address outstanding issues between the two sides.

He said negotiations between the parties were ongoing to normalise the security situation, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, and to promote de-escalation.

The spokesperson said Pakistan remained concerned over the fragile regional security situation despite a relative calm in recent days. He reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy remained the only viable path forward and welcomed efforts to sustain the cessation of hostilities and resume talks between the United States and Iran.

Andrabi urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and honour their commitment to resume technical-level discussions for implementing the Islamabad MoU in line with the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Statement.
