The city remained in the grip of intense heat on Monday, with the “feels like” temperature rising to 45 degrees Celsius amid hot and dry conditions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office reported that the actual temperature reached 41°C, while humidity dropped sharply to 8 per cent, increasing the severity of the heat.

Officials said hot and dry northwesterly winds were blowing at a speed of 11 kilometres per hour, adding to the harsh weather conditions. The combination of low humidity and dry winds has made the heat more intense for residents.

Experts explained that the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, increases due to environmental factors such as wind patterns and humidity, even if the recorded temperature is slightly lower.

The PMD said that hot and dry weather is likely to persist over the next 24 hours, with no immediate relief expected. Residents have been advised to take precautionary measures, including avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, staying hydrated, and limiting outdoor activities.

Karachi typically experiences such conditions during the pre-monsoon period when sea breezes weaken and hot continental winds prevail.
