Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Saturday (today) for a two-day official visit, the Foreign Office has confirmed.
The visit is expected to strengthen the brotherly ties between the two neighbouring countries, which recently demonstrated unity in the face of supporting each other amidst regional tensions involving India and Israel.
This marks President Pezeshkian’s first visit to Pakistan since assuming office.
The agenda for the visit encompasses a wide range of issues, including enhancing bilateral trade, energy cooperation, cross-border connectivity, and investment opportunities. Discussions on managing the Pakistan-Iran border and facilitating religious pilgrimages are also expected to take place.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Friday night, it was noted that the visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was hosted by Iran just a week after the ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May.
“Dr. Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and other high-ranking officials,” the statement added.
During his stay, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Political Adviser to the Iranian President, Mehdi Sanai, stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that discussions during the official meetings are expected to involve "cultural and business elites."

"The relations between the two countries encompass political, economic, religious, and cultural dimensions," he wrote. "The goals of the trip include enhancing provincial and border cooperation and increasing trade exchanges from the current level of 3 billion dollars."
Earlier, in April 2024, a month before his tragic death in a helicopter crash, the late President Ebrahim Raisi had also visited Pakistan, making stops in Lahore and Karachi as part of his itinerary.
