In an attempt to cover up the humiliating defeat by Pakistan during the May conflict, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh claimed that India could target Karachi through Sir Creek if war were to break out. He further boasted that Indian forces had reached Lahore in 1965 and this time, he said, they would enter Karachi through the Kutch district.

Speaking on Thursday, Singh made these boastful remarks while accusing Pakistan of building military infrastructure in the Sir Creek area, which he described as a disputed region.

He also accused Pakistan of escalating the Sir Creek issue despite India’s alleged attempts to resolve it through diplomacy. According to Indian media, Singh made these allegations while observing military exercises in Bhuj.

“Let us remember that in the 1965 war, the Indian Army had reached Lahore. And in 2025, Pakistan should remember that the road to Karachi goes through Sir Creek,” he declared in front of senior military officials.

This is not the first time India has invoked unreasonable claims to push a war narrative against Pakistan. The BJP government earlier used the issues of water and Pahalgam as pretexts for its offensive during the May clashes.

Sir Creek remains one of the unresolved border disputes between Pakistan and India, alongside Kashmir and Ladakh, with roots going back to the British colonial legacy.

The term “creek” refers to a narrow breach in the sea. This marshy strip connects to the Arabian Sea, and both Pakistan and India lay claim to extending their maritime boundary through this area.
