On late Thursday night, terrorists attacked a police checkpost in the Shaikh Landak area within the Havaid police area, injuring five police officers.

The regional police spokesperson said militants identified as Fitna al Khawarij. The exchange of fire lasted for 3 hours after the attack was initiated. Later, the tribal locals also got involved and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, the statement added.

The injured officers, sustained minor wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. On the orders of Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan, additional personnel were deployed to secure the area and combat the attackers.

District Police Officer Yasir Afridi visited the wounded at the hospital and praised the courage of both the police and local residents. “Bannu police have once again proven that it stands as a strong wall in front of the enemies of peace,” Afridi said.

The clash occurred amid a tense security situation in the area, just after a quadcopter attack on a football match the previous day left at least seven people, including minors, injured.

There has been a significant rise in militant attacks in KP and Balochistan since the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
