Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa on Monday rejected the claims made by Special Assistant to Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah that the apex court chief was ready to take an extension in his tenure.

He denied the claims during media talk after a full court reference at the beginning of the new judicial year.

Referring to the PML-N stalwart's remarks, a reporter asked CJP that the speculations were rounding that he was ready to take an extension.

In response, CJP Isa said, “Bring Sanaullah before me.”

“We were informed in the meeting that the employment age of judges is being increased [though a legislation]," he said, adding, "I said go ahead and extend the tenure of other judges, but I would not accept an extension for myself."

“I even do not know about my life, whether I would be alive or not for the next day."

The meeting was attended by CJP Faez Isa, Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and the Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan.

"He [Sanaullah] was not part of the meeting," the Supreme court's head added.

Additionally, CJP Isa claimed that the apex court has significantly improved the justice system.

"Past practices of predicted ruling based on the 'bench composition' no longer exist."

“Previously, it was common to predict the outcome of a case just by looking at the bench, but now, even I do not know which judge would sit next to me for a case."

He said several reforms have been made to enhance the judicial system, including a live broadcasting of court hearings.

“The purpose of live transmission was to show the performance of court to the public. Before live broadcasting, people had known only what media was reporting," CJP said.

Mr Isa further informed that he had returned the luxury vehicles provided for his official use.

“I told the government to sell these cars and buy buses for the public instead.”
