At least six people were killed and 12 others injured on Sunday morning when a bus carrying picnickers overturned and plunged into a ditch near Makli in Thatta district, according to rescue officials.
The incident occurred near the Thatta Bypass as the bus, en route from Karachi to Keenjhar Lake, attempted a sharp turn and lost control. Rescue workers from Edhi Foundation arrived promptly at the scene and transported the injured to local hospitals.
Several are reported to be in critical condition.
“The bodies of the six deceased were initially taken to a mortuary in Orangi Town before being shifted to Edhi’s morgue in Sohrab Goth, Karachi,” Edhi officials confirmed in a statement.
State-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that local authorities and rescue teams responded swiftly, with emergency services mobilised within minutes of the accident.
In a separate incident the same day, at least one person died and several others, including women and children, sustained serious injuries when another passenger bus overturned on the Gambat National Highway in Khairpur district.
The Khairpur-bound bus was traveling from Karachi to Swabi when it overturned. Rescue teams and local police rushed to the site and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
