The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet on Monday approved an additional Rs3 billion for the purchase of 15 bulletproof sedans for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit.
The summit is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad in September 2027.
The latest approval comes a week after the ECC approved Rs6.6 billion for the procurement of bulletproof vehicles for the summit.
The Cabinet Division had sought the additional funding through a Technical Supplementary Grant, stating that the vehicles were required for the secure transportation of visiting heads of state.
The ECC stressed the need for timely and comprehensive arrangements for the international event.
The committee also discussed security and transport arrangements made for the recent SCO heads of state summit in Kyrgyzstan and appreciated them as a model for Pakistan to follow.
The additional Rs3 billion will cover the purchase of 15 bulletproof sedans for transportation arrangements for foreign leaders attending the summit.
