A video of religious scholars declaring that staged nikah ceremonies in TV dramas between actors constitute real marriages is circulating on social media.

Their statement has shocked many social media users, including celebrities who have often participated in such scenes and are now questioning its implications.

The viral video clip is from a Ramadan transmission last year, dated March 29, 2023.

A group of religious scholars were participating in a Ramadan transmission on a private TV channel when one scholar raised a question for another. He inquired whether nikah ceremonies performed between actors in TV dramas could be considered valid marriages.

The cleric then responded, "Yes, certainly. If a nikah is performed in a TV drama scene with two witnesses present, then it will be considered a valid marriage."

The particular statement has left many people puzzled about the legal and religious implications of this statement. Social media users are questioning how actors using fake identities in these scenes could be truly married.

Taking to ‘X’, renowned actor Ushna Shah qiupped, "Time for an awkward conversation with my husband."

Actor Umer Aalam also jokingly wrote on his Instagram story, "By this logic, I've done three nikahs. I have space for one more, that would bring it to four."

Ahsan Khan was stunned by the cleric's statement.

A social media user recalled a similar controversy in the past, stating,  “Apparently, back in the 1990s, there was a similar brouhaha when Usman Pirzada divorced Samina Pirzada in a drama and a national debate broke out if it invalidates their real nikkah??”
