Islamabad Police has issued a new social media policy for all officers and personnel, imposing restrictions on their use of social media platforms.
According to police officials, personnel of all ranks will be prohibited from using social media in ways covered by the new policy. Police officers and personnel will also be barred from making videos or taking photographs while wearing their uniforms.
The policy strictly prohibits the use of police uniforms for personal publicity, fame or glamour. Action will also be taken against personnel who record videos in uniform at government vehicles, offices or private locations.
Personnel will further be prohibited from issuing statements to the media, speaking at public forums or writing articles without prior permission.
According to the police, personnel will not be allowed to express their personal political or religious views on social media. Sharing departmental or confidential documents and photographs on social media will also be prohibited.
The policy states that prior approval from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Headquarters will be mandatory even for posts aimed at highlighting the department’s positive activities.
The police said information regarding police activities would be released only through the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office (CPO). Unit heads will be responsible for monitoring the social media activities of their personnel.
Departmental action will be taken against those found violating the social media policy. The new policy, approved by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, has come into effect immediately.
