“I was thinking about suicide 12 days before wedding”: Momina Iqbal

Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has broken her silence over her ongoing dispute with Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar, accusing him of harassment, blackmail, and threats.

In a recent interview with journalist Irshad Bhatti, Momina Iqbal claimed that she was allegedly threatened with the release of her private pictures and other personal material on social media. She said this left her deeply concerned about her reputation and personal life.

The actress said the situation became so difficult that she was thinking about suicide 12 days before her wedding.

She said, “When Saqib came to my home with a marriage proposal, my father asked for some time before agreeing. A few months later, I started receiving messages from his first wife. That was when I found out that he was already married.”

According to Momina, Saqib Chadhar expected that the pressure and controversy would cause her fiancé, Hamza, to leave her. However, she said that did not happen and that Hamza stood by her during the difficult period.

The actress described her husband’s support as one of her greatest sources of strength during the ordeal, saying that his support helped her face the situation.

Momina Iqbal also rejected some of the claims that had emerged regarding her relationship and communication with Saqib Chadhar.

She said that the two had never been engaged, questioning how he could make such a claim when, according to her, he did not have any photographs from an engagement ceremony.

During the interview, the actress also reportedly presented chat records and other documentary evidence, which she said challenged Saqib Chadhar’s previously stated account of the timeline of their relationship and communications.

Momina Iqbal also rejected the impression that her primary objective in the matter was to obtain money from Saqib Chadhar.

According to the actress, she was not seeking a financial settlement but wanted the truth about the dispute to become public. However, the two sides continue to have differing positions regarding financial matters.

It is worth noting that legal developments in the case are also continuing. On September 3, following the emergence of new digital evidence, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) issued fresh notices to both Momina Iqbal and Saqib Chadhar.

The agency also formed a special investigation team to review the previous investigation record along with the newly surfaced material.
