Punjab's liabilities have declined by Rs66 billion to Rs1.691 trillion, a media report said, citing official documents regarding the province's local and foreign debt.

According to the documents, Punjab owed Rs1.757 trillion to local and international institutions in June 2025, but the figure decreased by nearly Rs66 billion by March 2026.

The records showed that Punjab’s debt burden declined by Rs13.2 billion between December and March.

The documents indicated that 42 per cent of the province’s total debt consists of loans obtained from international development institutions, while 20 per cent was borrowed from the Asian Development Bank and 18 per cent from China.

According to the Punjab Finance Department, the provincial government expects a further reduction in debt by the end of the current fiscal year.
