Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has returned to profitability after more than four years, supported by the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and improved operational performance.

At a press briefing, PTCL Group President and CEO Hatem Bamatraf said the company recorded a net profit of Rs3.1 billion in the January–March 2026 quarter, compared to a loss of Rs4 billion in the same period last year. Revenues rose 58% year-on-year, while operating profit increased 564%, reflecting the consolidation of Telenor Pakistan’s financials into the group since January.

The company also announced plans to formally launch 5G services in May. Its subsidiary, Ufone, has received a commercial certificate to begin the rollout.

Management declined to comment on the unresolved $800 million dues issue involving Pakistan, stating that the matter falls between shareholders. Officials also avoided responding to geopolitical questions regarding relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

PTCL said growth was driven by expansion in fixed broadband, enterprise, wholesale and mobile segments. The merger of Ufone and Telenor Pakistan, approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, is in its final stages, pending completion of legal formalities.
