The two countries could not agree on terms of ending their war despite hours-long negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital city, putting the tenuous ceasefire at risk.
Both sides were accusing each other of the failure in the 21-hour-long negotiation aimed at stopping the hostilities that had already claimed the lives of many, mostly Iranians, pushing oil and natural gas prices up around the globe.
“The unfortunate part is that we did not come to an agreement, and I believe that this is bad news for Iran much more than it’s much more sad news for the United States of America,” Vice President JD Vance, head of the US delegation in the negotiations, told reporters after his return from Islamabad.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that no one hoped to see an agreement after a single session of negotiations. “Of course, since the beginning, we did not expect to arrive at an agreement in one session only. This was never anticipated by anyone.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that Islamabad would continue its mediation in the peace process between the two archenemies.
