Punjab govt to recruit retired military personnel for monitoring schools

The Punjab government is going to recruit retired military personnel to monitor schools in 22 districts of the province.

The appointments will be made through the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), which has invited applications for Monitoring and Evaluation Officers. The officers will be hired initially for one year and will be paid Rs60,000 a month.

Those selected will also receive facilities allowed under education department rules, including official motorcycles for visits to educational institutions.

Retired General Duty Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers can apply for the positions until September 7. Applicants must be Punjab residents with a graduation degree and be between 30 and 55 years old.

Candidates will also need information technology experience and must meet the required physical fitness criteria.

The first phase will see 28 officers appointed. Twenty-one of the posts will go to retired military personnel, while the remaining seven will be filled by civilians.

The government plans to recruit monitoring officers for other districts in the next phase.

The recruitment is part of the provincial government’s effort to keep a closer watch on schools and their performance. It comes as the government continues arrangements for temporary teaching staff for the ongoing academic year.
